The Building Code Board of Appeals Board is comprised of members of the community qualified by experience or training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction. Any person may take an appeal to the Board to contest any decision of the Building Official (the Community Development Director). The application for appeal shall be based on a claim that the true intent of the Code has been incorrectly interpreted, or rigid enforcement would be contrary to the spirit and purpose of the Code.
The Building Code Board of Appeals meets on an as-needed basis. Once an application for an appeal is received, a public meeting is scheduled and the case is heard. The Board does not have the authority to waive requirements of the Code, but may alter the requirements of the Code if an acceptable alternative is proposed by the applicant.
