The City of Wood Dale is committed to "Working Together to Make Life Better" for residents, ensuring reliable, prompt and quality services.
The Public Works Department operates under four divisions, including:
Streets
Maintenance of public right-of-ways, including streets, curbs, sidewalks, street lighting, parkway trees, detention basins, traffic signage and snow and ice control.
Utilities
Maintenance of the water distribution system, pumping stations, well houses, storm water collection system, and sidewalk snow removal.
Vehicle Maintenance
Maintenance of all City fleet vehicles and heavy and specialized equipment.
Wastewater
Operation of the wastewater treatment plants and administration of the industrial pre-treatment program, lift stations and facility maintenance.

As of January 2024 ,the submittal process for ROW permits has changed. Please review all information prior to submitting a permit. Additional information can be found on the Permit Requirements and Conditions page, found here. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in revocation of the permit and additional fees or fines.
The City of Wood Dale utilizes a self-service portal, my.wooddale.com for all permit applications. You must create an account prior to submitting a permit.
Right of Way (ROW) permits are required for utility and infrastructure work within the public right of way.
For permit submittals:
- Approvals by other governmental agencies (i.e. Illinois Department of Transportation, DuPage County Department of Transportation, IEPA, etc.) may also be required prior to permit issuance. Verify these requirements prior to applying for a permit.
- Contact information for a general contractor and a 24/hour emergency contact.
- A description of the work, including type of utility, start and end date and time, square footage of disturbance and estimated cost of the right of way restoration.
- Certificate of Insurance and Project Drawings.
Review turnaround time is 10-15 business days from time of application.

This manual is provided to be used by reference for City staff and engineers as well as private developers and will be modified as needed to remain up-to-date with the most current practices and meet the needs of the City.

The Franchise Agreement protects both private and public infrastructure and improvements from damage. A copy of the full franchise agreement is attached, and further information can be found in Chapter 16 – Cable, Video and Small Wireless Facilities, of the municipal code.
Per the franchise agreement, the following information is required on an annual basis:
- Every utility that occupies right-of-way within the City shall register on January 1 of each year with the Department of Public Works, providing the utility's name, address and regular business telephone and email addresses. the name of one or more contact persons who can act on behalf of the utility in connection with emergencies involving the utility's facilities in the right-of-way and a twenty-four (24) hour telephone number for each such person, and of a certificate of insurance.

Maintaining Green Infrastructure Z
Mostly, native plant species are meant to be kept in their natural state. The City contracts with an environmental management firm to treat invasive species mechanically or chemically throughout the growing season. Occasionally, a high mowing or prescribed burn is also recommended as treatment.
State law requires you to contact the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators (JULIE) before you start any digging project, no matter how small the project or how deep you plan to dig.
Online or over the phone, JULIE’s request system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

2023 Public Works Year in Review
2023 was a busy year! Over 1,200 trees were trimmed, 1,600 dial-a-ride trips were completed, 118 trees planted and more! Looking forward to what 2024 will bring.
