According to the annual report published by backgroundchecks.org, Wood Dale has been named one of the safest cities in Illinois, with an overall ranking of #5 in the area.
“The Wood Dale Police Department works hard to ensure the safety of every resident and visitor within the community,” said Wood Dale Police Chief Greg Vesta. “We’re proud of the work our officers do for the City, and are pleased to be recognized with this ranking.”
The report used the most recent FBI crime statistics to create rankings. Violent crime rates and property crime rates were calculated against population in addition to the number of law enforcement workers within each community.
"We also recognize that we have very strong relationship with our community," added Vesta. "Our resident and business involvement in our crime prevention efforts is a key component in keeping Wood Dale safe."
Wood Dale actually tied with Elk Grove Village and Burr Ridge for the #3 spot thanks to its low crime rate and number of police officers.
